The Vulcan Challenge
Our first challenge: The Vulcan Challenge.
The Gist of It:
You are a Vulcan who was sent to earth in order to repopulate after your planet was destroyed. You may start the game with one full Vulcan and one half Vulcan. Make as many Vulcan babies as possible. To keep the blood line going you may add another full Vulcan every other generation. No need for a job as Starfleet is paying your way.
What makes a Vulcan? Slightly green skin, angular features, big super pointy ears. The half sim has to have 2/3 of the features. Offspring are not required to have these features.
The original rules do not mention any cheats or mods so I am assuming the creator did not even think of it. To stick with the game as closely as possible I am assuming this is meant to be played with no cheats.
My Game Play:
I will be the first to admit that I knew nothing about Star Trek. I found it difficult to start this challenge simply because I really did not know what the heck a Vulcan was. I did some research and am embarrassed to say I have tried to start this challenge multiple times.
There was the Kak household, Solo, Sperkjn, Marx, Skjshhd, Kmnmdfe... and, well, you get the point
But finally, after so many starts and stops, I committed. Meet the V'lifus'.
Lok (left) is full Vulcan. Hunan (right) is half. As there was no emphasis on traits I had to choose based on my research. Lok has no sense of humor, is disciplined, a genius, a computer wiz, and brave. Hunan is a genius, handy, family oriented, a snob, and has a green thumb.
Life starts off pretty normal for these two. They go out on a date and start meeting new people.
Things are good. Even though Starfleet is paying for everything Lok has gotten a job in the military. He wants to be an astronaut (pretty fitting, I think). Soon Hunan starts her job, too: making babies!
Meet the kids!
Ailir is the oldest. She is independent and responsible. Due to so many siblings she had to help play with the babies and feed them.
Dom is the second. He is ecentric and genius but he came out kind of like a jerk. He is socially akward so he makes a lot of gaffes.
An'an is triplet #1. He is a genius and very into the supernatural.
Tailak is triplet #2. She is very serious and a workaholic.
Talak is triplet #3. She is also a genius and wishes to follow in her father's footsteps as an astronaut.
Ainan is the youngest. She excelled in the logic skill set but enjoys being alone.
(On a side note it took me an hour to get this screen shot! They just would not cooperate)
Due to a lack of cheats or aging up being mentioned Lok and Hunan only had 6 children before Lok became too old.
Now that there are kids, what now? Well, the challenge only states keep going and making babies. The most logical thing to do is to marry everyone off and start the next generation. Other than that is play as normal. Make sure the kids do well, earn money, fulfill lifetime wishes, and find other ways to amuse oneself.
The review:
This was the very first challenge posted on the forum in 2009. While challenges were nothing new to simmers of the Sims2 it was relatively new for the open world concept. At this point I do not think anyone had really been able to fully explore this new game. Not to mention expansions were severely lacking at the time. With that being said it was a nice concept but not enough thought went into the rules. Seem how there are so few rules it is very easy to follow them. For a Trekkie this would be a great way to explore all of the different knowledge and nuances. For the rest of us, though, it may just be another day in town.
Fun: 2/5. Fun to create the initial characters but turns into a regular game very quickly.
Difficulty: Easy. Just breed, breed, breed
Time frame: Up to you. It can take as little or as long as you want.
Playability: 3/5. Easy to follow the rules but not enough direction
Overall rating: 2/5
